Xcelerate is hiring a Communications Coordinator!

Our talented Communications Coordinator, Jennifer Bolanos, will be leaving Xcelerate at the end of March to return to small business ownership. Jen first joined our team in December 2023 as P/T Admin Coordinator and quickly made an impact. Over the last 2+ years she has produced our Quarterly Event Series, grown our online community, elevated the caliber of our creative, and deepened our community partnerships, all while developing an authentic, caring, and community-centered brand voice across our communications platforms. We are so very grateful for her kindness, attention to detail, and keen understanding of women’s lived entrepreneurial experiences. You will be missed, Jen!

About the Position

Xcelerate Women is seeking a community-minded individual to fill the role of Communications Coordinator (Bilingual). This is an hourly position of 24–32 hours per week with the possibility of expanding to full-time. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Coordinator (Bilingual) will lead Xcelerate’s digital and in-person community engagement initiatives, including social media, email marketing, and events, with a goal of deepening connection and belonging for Xcelerate community members, owners, coaches, and annual partners.

Level: Mid-Level Administrative

Commitment:  Non-Exempt Hourly Position, 24-32 hours per week.

Expected Start Date: May 1, 2026

Work Environment: Hybrid: In person Monday and Tuesday in our NE Portland office. Weds thru Friday remote.

About the position
We are currently seeking a community-minded individual to fill the role of Communications Coordinator (Bilingual). This is an hourly position of 24-32 hours/week with the possibility of expanding to full-time. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications Coordinator (Bilingual) will lead Xcelerate’s digital and in-person community engagement initiatives - including social media, email marketing, and events -  with a goal of deepening connection and belonging for Xcelerate community members, owners, coaches, and annual partners. 

Areas of responsibility include but are not limited to:

  • Manage Xcelerate social media channels, creating posts, tracking analytics, developing content strategies, and engaging directly with our online community 
  • Design, send, and track open rates for monthly newsletters via Hubspot CRM
  • Develop and write blog posts that build community, including program and event announcements/recaps and culturally specific business guides
  • Define creative and engagement strategies for annual fundraising campaigns such as Give!Guide
  • Design event graphics, collateral, advertising, partnership decks, and other creative assets as needed
  • Plan and execute community events, including our Quarterly Event Series 

The ideal candidate is a Spanish-speaking, compassionate, empathetic, energetic, and detail-oriented Communications Coordinator (Bilingual) who is excited about our mission of empowering women business owners. Attributes that will lead to success in this position include an enthusiastic approach to getting daily tasks completed, the emotional intelligence to relate to many types of human experiences, flexibility, multi-cultural competency, and a mindset of optimism and abundance. A passion for small business, entrepreneurship, gender equality and/or inclusive economic development issues are added strengths.

Duties and Responsibilities

Digital & Design: (65%)

  • Create engaging and shareable content for socials, website/blog posts, and email marketing/newsletters utilizing Xcelerate branded assets and language
  • Develop and maintain annual content plans and editorial calendars 
  • Monitor and report on social media and email marketing campaign analytics; recommend and implement adjustments based defined KPIs ie. open rates, signups, likes/shares, and other engagement metrics
  • Engage positively and regularly in conversation with Xcelerate’s digital community: respond to comments, follow and engage with community member accounts, participate in small-business and nonprofit digital ecosystems
  • Research digital and email marketing trends and keep team apprised of changes that are relevant to Xcelerate marketing activities 
  • Design event graphics, collateral, advertising, partnership decks and other creative assets as needed

Program/Events: (30%)

  • Plan, promote, and execute in-person community events such as happy hours, panel conversations, and educational workshops - coordinate locations, panelists, catering, photography, etc.
  • Maintain and authentically grow our community of Latina coaches, entrepreneurs, and small business owners 
  • Identify partnership and program growth opportunities, especially with culturally specific organizations serving Spanish speaking communities
  • Evaluate and assess translation needs for Spanish program marketing materials
  • Support Programs Manager in intake, onboarding, scheduling, and support for Spanish speaking owners as needed

General: (5%)

  • Develop and maintain positive relationships and communicate professionally with clients, coaches, external partners, and board members at all times
  • Collaborate with Programs Manager to facilitate and support Xcelerate’s owner-led Community Action Committee
  • Provide Executive Director with project support as needed

Desired Skills 

  • Highly proficient in Spanish language verbal and written communications; ability to fluently communicate, partner, and connect with Spanish speaking communities in a variety of settings/formats including in-person, email, and social media
  • 1-3 years experience and success leading digital community engagement initiatives
  • Strong design skills utilizing tools like Canva or Adobe creative products to create compelling visual content for socials and presentations. 
  • Experience with Hubspot (or similar email marketing CRM, ie. Mailchimp or Saleforce) and Webflow is preferred.
  • Computer skills and technological savvy with intermediate to advanced proficiency in Google Suite, virtual meeting platforms like Zoom and Google Meet, and comfortable with team collaboration platforms like Slack. 
  • Meeting and event planning and execution experience with the ability to carry out light physical tasks and errands on behalf of the organization
  • Understanding of small business, nonprofit, and public sector work will be an asset

Compensation Package

Hours Per Week: 24-32 hours per week (with the possibility of expanding to full-time)
Hourly Pay: $25 - $28.64/hour, commensurate with skills
